Intentional Living and Community Building Certificate Program at The Lab offers a holistic learning environment for community building and personal development.  The program goes beyond political community organizing and addresses the specific needs of a community.  Intentional communities allow powerful action towards creating a high quality of life.  Alternative and radical solutions can be applied and used to create social change.  The ILCB program will begin by offering 4 leading edge courses that are open to community members, students and CBO staff and employees.

The courses will begin fall 2010.  Applications will be available online June 1st, 2010

A hands-on woman centered healing course that allows participants to engage in healing techniques through various indigenous  modalities, learn the  history of and role of long houses in communities and womanism in application in communities today.  Womb Purification through ancient Kemetic Traditions will be shared.

These hands on "Talk and Tea" Playshops will incorporate multi -discipinary work of progressive people of color and will facilitate thoughtful dialogue, projects and collaborations along with colorful herbal teas .

FOOD JUSTICE Course 1101

Classes are held Wednesdays 6 to 8pm and Saturdays 11am to 1pm
The 12 week course is $200 scholarships are available.
 

Th objective of the Food Justice Course is to introduce students to green and sustainable resources in New Orleans, deepen participants awareness of community building, provide a small urban farm as a work area, to train culturally aware leaders a community ethnographers with access to tools, skills and resources that allow Intentional Living and Community Building to happen in traditionally under-served communities.  Topics will include seeds, soil, urban farming, urban foraging, green in NOLA, culture of food, sustainable community models and more...
